Chapter Three

“If he looks at you like that again, I will definitely punch him in the face.”

Chris smiled apologetically at Rob. He thought his mate was overreacting, but he understood that things were a little tense right now, so he was trying to make everything as smooth as he possibly could.

“Shane’s harmless, Rob. He doesn’t mean anything by it.” Shane was one of the crew who were acting as their instructors while they were on the ship, and their tour guides every time they got off.

All the instructors were biologists, archaeologists, anthropologists, or something else nature-related, which made them perfect for teaching and guiding the passengers. Theo really had picked the best trip possible for all of them. It was like an educational vacation.

Chris was in heaven -- during the day, at least. But, that very tension at night was causing their current situation.

“I don’t know what kind of fantasy world you’re living in, but he definitely means it. I bet he doesn’t care if he has a lock on his door. Don’t you go anywhere alone with him.”

Chris refrained from rolling his eyes. Barely. “There’s nothing to worry about.”

“You better hope Teddy doesn’t find out about your admirer.”

“You better hope Theo doesn’t overhear you calling him Teddy in public.”

“Well, you better ho --”

“Boys…” Theo interrupted.

Oops.

“Hi, Theo.” Chris moved over on the bench to make room for his mate. He looked warmer than everyone else who’d been coming back inside, but that wasn’t saying much. “Cold out?”

“Is it still windier than a sack of assholes out there?”

“Eww, Rob! That’s gross.”

Theo sprawled out beside him, taking off his gloves and hat before tossing his jacket down beside him. “Not that bad, just damned windy, as Robin so lovingly described it.”

Chris hadn’t been able to stay outside for long, so he could see perfectly well why Theo had come inside to get warmed up. They were already a week and a half into their trip and the temperature had dipped, especially with how windy it got while they were on the open waters. They were nearing Svalbard, so it was all sea ice and whale sightings so far. Which was fascinating the first time he’d seen it, but after two hours Chris wanted to call it a day.

Robin hadn’t even lasted that long, and Theo had been outside all morning and then had gone right back outside after lunch.

“Do you want some coffee?” he asked.

“Hot chocolate?”

“Of course. I’ll be right back. Rob, you want anything?”

“I’m fine.” Rob was too busy making eyes at Theo.

Chris felt a little bad about that. He didn’t want his mates to feel like they couldn’t do anything together. Maybe he needed to get them alone in a room so they could exercise out any frustration. The “no lock” thing was his deal, not theirs. He was seriously stunned that Rob had managed to last a week and a half as it was.

Wandering over to the bar, he took a packet of hot chocolate and a tea bag. Man, he loved this place.
